American Gangster ~Jay-Z
American Gangster was inspired by the movie "American Gangster" itself released November 2, 2007 directed by Ridley Scott. Jay Z was called in to watch this 3 time awarded movie. When leaving the screening he decide to do an album based of his emotions of this movie. This album was actually the unofficial soundtrack to this movie.American Gangster was his 10th album and Jay Z was expressing his feeling he never acknowledge because he was busy living his lavish lifestyle. The movie inspired him to put emphasis on the emotions that was never reveal in the movie and the ROC Nation himself. He was inspired by the 70's time period. Jay Z was intrigued by the soulful music during the 70's, which most rap artist doesn't go out the box to get a message across. The album itself talks about the rise and fall of the drug dealing lifestyle and start to go in the rap career. There was a few tracks that stood out. Fallin', Roc Boys. and Ignorant Shit. Fallin' was a song that a lot of people who struggle coming up could relate to, its talks about how overtime you want to do something right there is always something to bring you back, or get caught in your old ways. Jay Z himself grew up in the hood around a lot of drug dealing but he made a way out because he realize the lifestyle wasn't for him. Which now leads to Roc Boys, This songs represents how people finally make out the struggle and living a lavish lifestyle, and all the money getting too you. Ignorant Shit is the best song because it has one of the greatest lyric lines in history ""Scarface" the movie did more than Scarface the rapper to me Still that ain't to blame for all the shit that's happened to me Are you saying what I'm spittin' Is worse than these celebrattantes showing they kitten, you kiddin'! Let's stop the bullshittin 'Til we all without sin, let's quit the pulpittin" Jay Z in this song personally think the movie Scarface inspired him more, more so than the rapper. And personally this was a perfect line for this album because Jay Z was doing the unofficial soundtracks for the movie "American Gangster".

This was a good review of a album so far into Jay Z's rap career. This was a well review, there are a few grammatical errors.
ReplyDeleteThis post improved very much, with both word choice and the fact that you added more pictures. You did a better job at covering the the lyrics.
DeleteI agree good review a few grammatical errors but the background of the artist and the influence to producing it are very well thought.
ReplyDeleteAfter closer analysis I noticed more background influences that contribute to the gangster essence of the album.
DeleteI really LOVE how you compared it to his lifestyle and how the album portrays him in some ways!
ReplyDeleteNicely thought out. There should be some changes to the font in the intro it is sort of small. Nothing major. You really focused the inspiration behind the album. I would suggest that you go deeper into the songs individually. Tell the reader exactly what you got from it. Nice way to tie in his background as an artist. Very well written overall just just needs to be looked over to be checked for grammatical errors
ReplyDeleteI like the comparison you see in your article. I like how you kind of describe jay z career. Lastly I did notice a few errors.
